The prevalence of long-term conditions by age decile

People of working age as well as older people are managing long-term conditions

For the population of England in 2021, There were:

  • 23 million with one or more LTC
  • 10.5 million with two or more LTCs
  • …. of which 4.8 million were aged 65 or more
  • …. and 5.7 million were aged <65 years

While the likelihood of having a long-term condition rises significantly for older age groups, there are more people under 65 who are living with diagnosed long-term conditions.
It is a national priority to help those of working age to become economically active. This requires them to be managing their condition successfully.
